🇫🇷🎬🇰🇷 FRANCE AND KOREA INVENTED CINEMA DIPLOMACY
The first international event was held in France Lumière Summit on the future of cinema and the moving image. It was jointly hosted by the presidents of France and South Korea — more than 200 representatives of the film, media and gaming industries from 65+ countries attended the meeting.
The main topic was what to do with cinema in the age of AI, streaming and short videos. Participants adopted a declaration that specifically affirmed the value of human creativity and proposed making the ability to understand images and videos as basic a form of literacy XXI of the 21st century as reading.
France and South Korea are also launching a joint partnership worth €1 billion to develop the film and audiovisual industries.
🌍 This creates an unusual form of cultural diplomacy: countries are now uniting not only around trade and politics, but also around who will create stories in the age of artificial intelligence and how they will do it.
