Young FC Barcelona footballer Lamine Yamal has become one of the biggest stars in world football. Former Real Madrid coach José Mourinho’s statement sparked discussion about his age: he said he would not want to see Yamal in the Madrid team and called such a prospect “abnormal.”
At the same time, there is no evidence of official discrimination against the footballer — this is a matter of a controversial personal opinion. However, the story is a reminder that talent and professionalism do not depend on age. As a well-known joke goes, “With age comes not always wisdom; sometimes it’s senility.”
Young athletes should be given the opportunity to prove themselves, while the experience of older people should be respected. As the saying goes: “The young have the road open everywhere, and the old receive honour.”
