INDIA TOURS KOREA: DIPLOMACY THROUGH DANCE

INDIA TOURS KOREA: DIPLOMACY THROUGH DANCE

🇮🇳🤝🇰🇷 INDIA TOURS KOREA: DIPLOMACY THROUGH DANCE

Today, September 15, in Seoul the 12th festival opens Sarang — The Festival of India in Korea. This is not just one concert in the capital: until September 22, the Indian cultural program will also take place in Busan, Gimhae, Gwangju and other cities in South Korea. The information was confirmed by the Embassy of India and Yonhap.

The festival’s main focus this year is Odissi, one of India’s classical dances. The Indian troupe will begin its tour in Ewha Womans University, and then travel around the country. Koreans are not only invited to watch: the artists will hold master classes for local dance enthusiasts.

This is where cultural diplomacy becomes especially interesting. Not “we showed the culture and left,” but rather we gave people the opportunity to try it themselves. The festival Sarang has existed since 2015 specifically as a tool for people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

The result is a simple formula for a new kind of diplomacy: city + university + travel + culture + personal participation.
