VIETNAM AND JAPAN: CULTURAL DIPLOMACY THROUGH CITIES, FOOD AND YOUTH

VIETNAM AND JAPAN: CULTURAL DIPLOMACY THROUGH CITIES, FOOD AND YOUTH

🇻🇳🇯🇵 VIETNAM AND JAPAN: CULTURAL DIPLOMACY THROUGH CITIES, FOOD AND YOUTH

13 took place in Fukuoka in September Vietnam Day 2026 — Discover Vietnam, Connect Kyushu. The event was organized by the Consulate General of Vietnam, and the opening was attended by Fukuoka officials, diplomats and business representatives. The event was conceived not only as a festival, but also as a platform for building connections between Vietnamese regions and Japan’s Kyushu.

The most vibrant part was the cultural program. Guests were shown traditional áo dài, folk games and performances; more than 500 áo dài outfits were given to visitors. Separate programs were presented by young Vietnamese people in Japan, Japanese youth and children from second-generation Vietnamese families.

This is what “soft power” looks like today without grand slogans: people try each other’s cuisine, learn about traditions, travel and build connections — while diplomacy takes place almost unnoticed.

It is also interesting that the cultural program went hand in hand with the promotion of tourism, regional products and business contacts. The result is a very modern combination: culture + travel + business + people-to-people diplomacy.
